  17. APPLE USA ANNOUNCES APPLE SOFTWARE VOLUME LICENSING PROGRAM

  19. CAMPBELL, California--June 7, 1993--Apple USA, a division of Apple
  20. Computer, Inc., today formally launched the Apple Software Volume
  21. Licensing Program, a simple, cost-effective way for customers in the
  22. U.S. to acquire software licenses, support and maintenance in volume
  23. for selected Apple software products.  Under the program, U.S.
  24. customers may also acquire volume licenses for site locations outside
  25. the U.S.
  26.     Starting today, volume licensing will be widely available through
  27. authorized Apple resellers, including direct software resellers,
  28. Apple dealers and Apple Value Added Resellers (VARs).  Education and
  29. state and local government customers may purchase volume licenses
  30. from Apple directly.
  31.     The following products will be available under a volume license, with
  32. others to be added over time:  System 7.1 (for customers who wish to
  33. upgrade from earlier operating system versions), MacintoshPC
  34. Exchange, At Ease, Apple Font Pack, AppleTalk Remote Access Client,
  35. Data Access Language Client, TCP/IP Connection for Macintosh, MacX,
  36. SNA-ps 3270 and SNA-ps 3270 GC.
  37.     "Convenient and cost effective software acquisition and upgrade
  38. methods are extremely important to our large customers," said Mike
  39. Dionne, Apple USA vice president and general manager of marketing
  40. operations.  "With this program, organizations interested in volume
  41. pricing and maintenance contracts can now exercise volume licensing
  42. arrangements with Apple to enhance and maximize performance of their
  43. installed Macintosh systems at a much lower cost per seat."
  44.     The program includes tiered volume pricing based on the number of
  45. CPUs licensed per product, with a flat price per each tier.  As with
  46. all Apple products, up and running toll-free technical support,
  47. comprised of set-up and installation, configuration, compatibility,
  48. troubleshooting, third-party product support referral and pre-sales
  49. assistance, will be included in all volume license acquisitions.
  50.     As a promotional kick-off to this program, Apple will offer special
  51. introductory pricing on selected products.
  52.     To complement Apple Software Volume Licensing, Apple will offer the
  53. Apple Software Maintenance Program (ASMP) to authorized licensees
  54. with volumes of 50 or more CPUs.  ASMP is a yearly subscription
  55. program which will provide customers with updates, upgrades, bug
  56. fixes, modifications, and/or software enhancements.  ASMP is
  57. currently available for all Apple software products offered in the
  58. Software Volume Licensing Program except the Apple Font Pack.
